Mad Hatter’s Film Camp

Me singing for the video shoot.

Disregard the author listed above. It’s not Dad, it’s me. Zoe.

This weekend I went to a really cool film camp called the Mad Hatter’s Film Camp. They recorded us singing and shot a music video. Of course, I’ve never done anything like this before, and I’ve definitely never seen a house like this before!! This house provided all the fun we needed to fuel our music video!! And all the space for those boys to run around. The pets were just a bonus though!

The camp was held at a house where Sam, the director, lived. It was so big. When I walked in, I saw a hallway that looked like it belonged in a cathedral. It had marble walls with statues on the sides. When I went into the living room, which was just straight down the hall, I saw this big tree, about 12 feet tall and nearly touching the ceiling, right in front of me. It was complete with ornaments and everything. The basement was full of props, couches, and workout machines. There was a separate room, in the basement, that had a white background with a couch for interviews, some makeup mirrors and chairs, and a separate area, in the same room, with a large green screen. My favorite part, about that specific room in the basement, was the recording studio. It was a small space against the wall of the room, with murals all over the outside. The recording studio also had soundproofing walls, a professional computer, a microphone, and a very comfortable chair. In front of the microphone there was a window, that’s where I did the pig nose. While we are on the topic of the music video, here is my experience.

I was the first one there so I asked him what we were going to be doing, and he said that we were going to sing “Rockin Around The Christmas Tree.” I told him that was the one song I had been practicing in my singing lessons, and that I knew all the lyrics. Once everybody got there, we played poison frog, a game, then we did a treasure hunt in his huge backyard. The things we were supposed to find were chocolate Euro coins, but sadly, one remains missing. After all the fun and games, we went to the beach and kinda brainstormed what we would do in the video.  We then went to record the song, but the boys had to stay upstairs while I was recording because they were being too loud. When we were actually shooting the part of the music video in front of the Christmas tree Sam, the director, was dancing behind the camera, and kind of reminding me to dance a little. The song was playing from the TV, but I couldn’t hear it through the boys’ laughter. When in the grass I was “making a snow angel”. When we were running towards the camera, all the boys thought it was a race. Obviously I did not think that shot was going to go in the video and I made that face, but what can you do? Let’s talk about the animals and people, shall we?

Me, singing and pretending to play the ukulele. (I can play it, just didn’t need to here.)
Me and three of the boys because one wasn’t there the first day.
Us “racing” outside while Haley enjoys the camera.
Me, Jake, and one of the instructors posing.
Jake singing.
Us playing charades at the end of the day.
Front gate to the house.
Here’s all of us involved with the video shoot out near the pool. Beach in the background.
Picture of the house where it all happened.
White video shoot/interview area.
Green screen side of the room.
Recording studio.
All of us again.
Entry hallway with stairs to the second floor. That floor was off limits, of course.

I think the boys are related to the animal kingdom, because they sure acted like it. They had this really cute dog that was named Cash and they also had two cats. But I think I found my soul mate with the dog. One cat was very friendly and drooled all over the place, and one was kind of grumpy like mom when she’s tired. There were supposed to be two other girls to do the music video with, but they didn’t show up and I had to stay with 4 boys. All immature. One was 6, one was 7, and two were 10. Of course being me, I kinda asked them to stop screaming and running when we were trying to do the green screen. Sam, the teacher, also kept trying to get them to be quiet and stay still. Finally we got them to sit still to do the mannequin challenge, that was really fun. There was one 10 year old that I think had a crush on me, though I didn’t really like any of the boys. They were too rambunctious and, well, a little “rich”, and they knew it. They were literally arguing who had the biggest house.*rolls eyes* Sam and his assistants were such nice people. They did have a little bit of a swearing problem but they kept saying “sorry” afterwards. Everyone was British there except Haley and me. So they kept saying, “Char-ahds”, instead of “Charades”. I was confused at first, then they explained what it meant. Sadly that’s the end.

So that was my experience at the Mad Hatters Film Camp. I liked how the video turned out and the way I was “making a snow angel” in the grass. I think it’s safe to say “that was the best camp that I’ve ever attended”. Comment your favorite part of the video and if you liked it! Until next time!!

Without further ado… the video:
