When you are educating your kids via travel, sometimes it can take awhile to see it come full circle and in the meantime you might wonder “Are they really learning anything???”. And then other times the full circle happens lightning fast!
This month Haley is working on a research project. She chose to learn more about dinosaurs and specifically why they became extinct. So we’ve been reading a lot of articles about all the theories. We were quite interested in the prevailing asteroid theory, especially because the asteroid is said to have landed in the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, where we happen to be headed next.
While looking at this area geographically, we read about the large number of sink holes that happen on the edge of the crater rim. We agreed that sink holes are kind of scary. No es bueno!
Not two days later we read a news article from Cancun that announced a road closure due to… a sink hole! We are not too fond that our next home-away-from-home has these issues but we were very interested to see a modern day relationship to the very-distant-past event that we were studying. It was an aha moment, brought to you by this crazy journey.
