Yesterday we packed up and left Pedasi to show the Kings a bit more of Panama. We headed to David and anyone who has driven that road will tell you it’s a burden. Between the construction trucks, the horrible pavement and the many obstacles (living and not) it feels like you’ve been through battle when you finally get off it. We had a better time than most, however. We had Zoe’s walkie talkies in each car and we passed the time with much witty banter between the two families. 17 years of vacationing together gives you lots of inside jokes.
We made it to the outskirts of David in time to check out the Gualaca canyon where we have visited several times but never had the opportunity to take the plunge. This time 6 out of 8 of us jumped in to the surprisingly warm water and had some fun. Moms did not partake of the swimming but we took photos. But we did participate in the impromptu pedicure that happens when you leave your feet in the water long enough for the little fishies to eat pieces of your skin. It was gross and interesting at the same time.
Today we drove up to Volcan to visit our favorite sloths. This was the 4th time for the Shermans but it’s still not enough for Haley. It’s her happy place. The Kings were moderately impressed with them (Jared notsomuch). We explored a little and then managed to give the kids some pool time at the hotel.
Then we took off for Boquete to show the Kings our old stomping grounds way back in October when we first landed in Panama. Ah the memories of our walk to Spanish school! A birthday dinner for Quintin, a few shops, a well timed stop at a bakery for dessert and we called it a day.
Tomorrow we take another challenging drive over the mountains to the Caribbean side to go to Bocas del Toro. Adventures await!
