South Africa LOL

Allison Sherman Posted onApril 19, 2017 Comments are off 2658 Views

Loyal readers know… my last post in a country is always the LOL. We keep a running album of funny signs and images we find as we navigate the adventure so you can join in on the giggles. It’s not as easy to find LOLs in an English-speaking country. They don’t seem to make as many grammatical mistakes as our previous Spanish-speaking ones. But we do find some silly things as we explored the country, so here they are.

You couldn’t find a shorter email address? [email protected] is memorable, however.

It’s phonetically correct. That’s how they pronounce “something”.

This one would be pronounced “Soopah Queek”.

Owls? Are there owls here? Oh, no. That’s just how they say “honk”.

An advertisement for waxing. Oh. My. That’s a little edgy, don’t you think?

Daniel’s favorite cookies. He always wants to eat some more but he’s not sure why…

The loo is not just for British doggies either.

Yikes. This is a little politically incorrect for us ‘Mericans.

Once again McDonald’s adapts to the local culture. “Flava” = Flavor

They call a pickup truck a “bakkie”

This is how they keep shopping carts from rolling away. I had a hard time getting Haley to touch the cart handles before she saw this. Now she flat-out refuses.

In one women’s restroom we saw a little remote control type item next to the seat. This was the sign explaining the options. I’m a little overwhelmed with indecision. “Kids, tell Dad I’m going to be in here a little while longer…”

I guess trumpet players are not welcome here.

This is my kind of graffiti.

Does anyone need a nak? Cheas flavored?

Zoe spilled some water and decided to make it into Africa. The blue cap is Madagascar. Size relativity is off but she gets points for creativity.

Surely photoshopped but so funny nonetheless.

That’s it! That’s all folks! Someday Haley will get around to her South Africa food blog but for now that’s a wrap. Thanks for hanging around for all the Africa adventures and stay tuned for more of the journey in other places.
