A: In Panama, we bought a car with cash. They don’t do financing there. Or at least with people who are on a “tourist” visa. Then we sold it before leaving. In Mexico it was so expensive to rent a car for a long stay that we bought a car, which ended up being almost the exact same car that we had in Panama! We tried to sell it but the Mexican cartel got involved with the guy who was helping us and it disappeared. Lesson learned on that one. In Spain we rented a car. In South Africa, Europe and Asia we also rented cars. In Colombia we found it was the first place where renting a car was not really a great idea so we rely on taxis, which adds to the amusement of our life here.
