Being a teen already has a lot of ups and downs but taking one of them out of her native language and culture can sure add some challenges. Haley had a lot of ups and downs yesterday. Here was the day according to Haley:
Down: Monday is PE day. The uniform looks ridiculous, I will sweat in the middle of the school day and I have to touch the dirty ground.
Down: I had to do 40 sit ups and 40 push ups in PE.
Up: I hit the ball in baseball during PE. I hit it hard and it went far.
Down: I ran the wrong way.
Up: I turned around and I made it to first base.
Down: My classmates screamed at me to keep going but I didn’t know what they were telling me to do so I stayed on first.
Up: School got out early.
Up: Horseback riding in the afternoon!
Down: Horse bucked off Cyril and his amigo. Crazy horse!
Up: Stumbled onto a pig farm while horseback riding. Cute little piggies.
Down: It’s a slaughterhouse too. Saw a pig get killed (lowest point of the day).
It was exhausting just watching Haley work through the day. Thankfully teens are also resilient creatures. After a little communication with her BFF, family TV time and a good dinner, all was right with the world by bedtime. Haley won’t let me take a picture of her in the PE uniform but these are the shorts she is required to wear. Notice the elastic legs. Reminiscent of those plastic diaper covers. Precious!
